Preparing an outline

The course outlining stage is your first opportunity to explore content with subject matter experts (SMEs), manage the flow of information, and build confidence in your design team. This module guides you through this crucial initial step in learning content development.

Learning objectives

When you have completed the learning in this module and successfully completed the learning activities, you will be able to do the following tasks.

▪     Explore and manage content with subject matter experts (SMEs) during the outlining stage.

▪     Develop a learning outline based on required behavioural changes.

▪     Document the topics and key points to be covered in each topic.

▪     Agree on an appropriate approach to grouping the learning content.

▪     Understand how outlining helps determine the breadth and depth of content and ensures project scope alignment.

▪     Conduct an outlining workshop, typically involving the learning designer and subject matter expert, to identify content and order.
