Action mapping is a streamlined, visual process introduced by Cathy Moore that helps design training in the business world. It focuses on changing real behaviour by concentrating on what people need to do, rather than what they need to know, saving time and money by avoiding irrelevant information and ineffective tasks.
Learning objectives
When you have completed the learning in this module and successfully completed the learning activities, you will be able to do the following tasks.
▪ Identify the root of a business problem and define measurable business goals before designing training.
▪ Determine what people need to do (job behaviours) to achieve the business goal, rather than just what they need to know, and understand why they aren't currently doing it.
▪ Design realistic practice activities that allow learners to try out job behaviours, collaborating with subject matter experts to create relevant and contextual experiences.
▪ Identify the minimum information learners must have to complete practice activities, avoiding the bombardment of irrelevant content.
▪ Apply the four key steps of Action Mapping to design effective training solutions.
